Margaret Irving was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and was given her first camera by her mother when she was twelve. She has been taking photos and making drawings of people ever since.
She studied at the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design for black & white photography & photo development and at Durham College for drawing, and at Toronto Image Works for computer graphics, but is mainly (and proudly) a self taught artist.
Living in the Toronto area for more than 20 years, she has enjoyed a varied artistic career working as a stained glass artist, makeup artist, portrait photographer, photographer’s representative, photo retoucher and art show installer. Margaret began painting portraits in the visually exciting Pop Art style in the fall of 2004 where she created a unique for herself. Her work is reminiscent of Andy Warhol’s style, but is more painterly and detailed. See the process page for more information about the artwork.
Exhibiting work in galleries and coffee shops, and having her work featured in Style at Home magazine has brought commissioned works and a portfolio of satisfied clients from coast to coast.
